Good Girl

There's no denying it, I felt horribly like a 'good girl' in this outfit. And apparently my friends thought so too, because I definitely received more than one query that went along the lines of "are you wearing your old school uniform?" In any case, if there is a school with such a school uniform, you can sign me up immediately. Woe forbid school uniforms be fashionable, though-- I still remember the regulation knee-length skirts, the strict rules about socks, and the general geek vibe one exuded while wearing a school uniform. At least now in university, I can pretend to be wearing a school uniform, in my powder blue button-up, pleated forest green midi, and some gingham loafers, while not looking like a student of the extremely studious sort.

I definitely liked the pairing of the over-sized loose button-up (just the right amount of preppy, yet casual at the same time) with a structured skirt, and this outfit would be perfect for a casual day out with the girls at a cafe. I thought I would perhaps outgrow midis, but I find myself still clamouring for them, though the chances to wear them amidst a sea of above-the-knee minis are far and few between. I threw on a couple of silver necklaces to make the outfit more interesting, and I'm not sure if you can tell, but layering necklaces has been a bit of a thing for me lately.

An Ode to Summer

(cardigan, Bangkok / bustier, Hollyhoque / shorts, Bangkok / sunnies, Japan / platforms, Topshop / ring, Colette Hayman / bracelet, Claire's / apple necklace, Colette Hayman, flower necklace, Claire's, black plate necklace, Lowry's Farm)

It's all about the details, right? Which means I found it perfectly justified to wear three largely different necklaces, just for the sake of layering, and just because. Dainty statement necklace, a bold neck-piece, and a quaint little pendant, check, check, and check-- I've got all the bases covered.

Anyway, this outfit was meant to be my Ode to Summer, in remembrance of the days of short shorts, sleeveless tops and bright cheery colours, before I transitioned into structured Fall outfits, with midi skirts and muted tones. The weather was getting a little chilly, so I threw on a bright pink cardigan to bring the whole look together and to stop me from freezing in classrooms. I must admit, though, that the whole pinks-creams-nudes palette has never been an integral part of my wardrobe, but I am beginning to see its appeal. Though perhaps that's just another excuse for me to snap up more clothes to fit this new colour scheme I've begun to incorporate into my wardrobe. I've always been a blues-greens-greys kind of girl myself.

How have you all been? I've just gone through the first week of school, and it somehow felt like many, many weeks, despite being only seven days long, a phenomenon that I find myself hard-pressed to explain. It might have something to do with the sudden jolt of school after a long holiday, but I guess it's just something we all go through. Hopefully we all have a better second week at school!

Pizza Date

Well, there you have it- what I would wear for a pizza date at La Nonna in Holland Village. Cute, casual, and just the right touch of femininity with a floral print. Granted, my original plans had been to visit Sunday Folks for a waffles with ice-cream, but that plan was foiled when I realized it was not open. (Talk about cheated feelings). Still, anything goes, and this outfit pretty much works for a pizza date as well. It's an all-black outfit, as per my love for all things monochrome, but I feel like the floral print adds an interesting burst of colour to the otherwise monotonous outfit. I could not resist slinging on my gold medallion necklace -seriously though, everyone needs one, it's one of my most worn necklaces- and just about my whole collection of gold rings. I've a thing for gold accessories recently, and can't seem to stop adding new pieces to my already burgeoning stash.

I had a magnificent lunch this day, topped off with the best apple tart I've ever had the chance to taste, paired with an interestingly refreshing lime sorbet. I don't think I've gotten the taste of warm, tartly sweet chunks of apple and icy cold sorbet out of my mind yet. In any case, any occasion on which I can step out of the school campus just to relax is a happy one indeed, because they are so far and few between. Hopefully there'll be more of such days during Semester 2?

Flowers and Stripes

(top, The Tinsel Rack / skirt, Dressabelle / shoes, Topshop / bag, Emoda / necklace, Lovisa)
(photos by Siu Farn)

It was drizzling when I took these photos, and the whole shoot was a rush, with dreary black skies, so I apologize for the lack in photos in this post-- there were too many that did not quite make the cut. It was a pity though, because I was rather excited to put on this outfit. Kudos to my photographer for standing in the rain just to help me get these outfit shots (I owe you way too much).

In any case, it is fun in a certain way to put together two clashing separates, in very different prints, yet somehow it works because the base colours of the prints revolve around blues, whites and greys, pulled together by basic black shoes and a bag. I shall have to admit though, it was difficult traipsing around school in these shoes, especially since I had to rush to the library to get some documents printed, and by the end of the day I was hobbling around like an old lady. Still, I did love this outfit too much to care. I'm also a little obsessed recently with quartz necklaces. In fact, I recently bought another one, but they go with just about anything, so I think I'll just call them my basic necklaces and use that as an excuse to justify my purchases.

The countdown to the start of the new school semester has officially begun, and I am not ready for it., mainly because I foresee many weeks of trying to get back into the game, which probably translates to a hiatus in blog posts and outfits again. I'll see how I can work around that. In the meantime, yay or nay to low ponytails and nude lippie?

Getting To Know Cobalt

(bralet, The Tinsel Rack / necklace, Topshop / shorts, The Tinsel Rack / square ring, Scape Underground, silver rings, Lovisa / bag, Kanken / shoes, Doctor Martens)
(photos by Aileen)

Cobalt has never been a colour I've kept in my wardrobe, until the addition of this sweet piece from The Tinsel Rack. I rarely wear bralets, and cobalt is a new colour to me, but I cannot say I regret the choice-- the bold vibrancy of this colour adds so much more to an outfit. I also have to mention that this new pair of shorts has made it to the top of my list of favourite clothing items, simply because of its fit, and -you guessed it- the drop dead gorgeous print. I'm such a sucker for pretty prints that I was literally spellbound by it, and could not resist putting up a photo of a close-up of the print. It just so happens that I really do love this pairing- both pieces are striking on their own, but do not detract from the other's vibrancy. That said, I'm looking forward to getting to know cobalt in greater detail.

Anyway, Happy New Year to all! I'm all set for a new school semester (read: grabbing onto the remnants of the holiday with all my might), and honestly, Christmas seems to have never ended. I'm glad that I managed to make use of this holiday to really catch up with a lot of old friends, and while the thought of having to meet new people during the new school semester scares me, I'm going to take it head-on! The speed at which time flies never fails to amaze me, so for 2015 I would like to grasp each moment firmly and make the most out of everything, and go through it without regrets. Here's to hoping that 2015 will be a great year filled with numerous opportunities and happiness for all of us!
