Cherry Lips Crystal Skies

(dress, The Label Junkie / silver cuff, Azensg / crystal necklace, Lovisa / cut-out boots, Topshop / bag, Sandy Trove)
(photos by MK)

When I first saw Taylor Swift's Blank Space, I knew I had to get a halter-style dress. You know the scene where she's resting on the lap of her current beau, in a halter-style yellow and white striped top, popping a candy heart into her mouth and singing "Cherry lips, crystal skies"? I took one look at her outfit and was hooked, and I decided that I had to have a similar outfit. And honestly, there's nothing I can even find to dislike about this dress. The halter cut toward a tapered-in waist and the flared skirt fits like a dream and makes me look impossibly smaller-sized. The print combines everything I love in prints - abstract lines and flowers. Suffice to say, this dress is something like a fantasy come true.

I'm not sure if this outfit post is the first one showing my cuff bangle from Azensg, but I'm absolutely obsessed with it. I first saw it at the Christmas Markets flea, and couldn't stop thinking about it, so much that I made my way down again the next week just to place an order for it. Even now, I still lust for more of these cuff bracelets. I think part of its appeal comes from the fact that it can be adjusted to fit my wrist (100 brownie points to all cuffs which fit), and now I have to add cuffs to my never-ending, ever-growing wishlist.
A girl can dream, I suppose.

The Holy Grail

(dress, The Willow Label / shoes, Topshop / purse, Michael Kors / crystal necklace, WoodenBox, triangle necklace, Lovisa / arrow cuff, Claire's, beaded bracelets, Forever 21 / hashtag ring, Lovisa, heart ring, Claire's, wraparound ring, Japan)

Of course, it's no mean feat to be called the Holy Grail of all dresses, but let me try to explain why this dress just does it for me. I just love everything about it; the peach, purple and rose hues of flowers printed on an easel of pure white cloth in a pattern that puts other prints to shame, the halter-styled neckline, and the flattering flare of the skirt. It's also the perfect length for my height. If not for the fact that I'm afraid something might stain the dress (it actually did happen), I would be wearing this dress out every week.

So, what's your idea of the perfect dress? I'm pretty sure this floral sheath, while passing my criteria, will most definitely not be the only dress on my list (yes, list) of Holy Grails - in fact, the dress in the upcoming post probably makes it to the same list as well. I'm a fickle minded person that way.

Shades of Grey

(dress, Runway Bandits / necklace, Lowry's Farm / bag, Fjallraven Kanken / watch, Nakedglory / heart ring, Cache cache, midi ring, Lovisa)
(photos by Siu Farn)

Lessons learnt from a shades of grey outfit: always, always, wear bright lipstick, or risk looking like a washed-out version of yourself. Considering that the whole outfit consisted of what I would normally term a safe, neutral (dull, even) colour, I'm not sure what possessed me to layer such a light shade of lipstick on. Though coincidentally, I fell very sick a couple of hours after taking these photos, so perhaps that's an excuse. Still, the next time, I'll be sure to paint on a brighter shade.

On lazy days, a simple shift dress and sneakers combination can never go wrong, especially when this isn't a dressy sort of shift. The combination of the pockets and the material of the dress give it an overall sporty vibe, which pretty much makes this dress a winner.

In other news, I just started my new job at The Closet Lover this week (so go check them out), and I'm pretty hyped up for this job! I hope to be able to do well and learn a lot, of course. It's been a pretty exhausting three days (the long commute really doesn't help), but I'm determined to make the most out of my summer holidays!

Cream on Tangerine

(cardigan, The Tinsel Rack / dress, Topshop / shoes, Doctor Martens / ring, Lovisa / bracelet, Hollyhoque)
(photos by Siu Farn)

When your accounting group decides to wear red, and you turn up in your brightest option, only to find out that they were all dressed in varying shades of maroon (did you perhaps miss that memo?) and you have to endure the rest of the day being asked why you resemble a giant red packet in school. Thought thankfully I had a cream cardigan to offset the brightness, it was quite hilarious to spend the day in school standing out from the normal muted florals and hues. In any case, red is not maroon, people, and don't you forget that. Though technically I did turn up in tangerine, which is also... not red.

A throw-over in a nice neutral cream shade, delicate gold accessories and an adorable chunky bracelet can do well to distract from the overall vividness (or should I say lurid colour?) of a tangerine dress, but who's to say there's anything wrong with walking around in a flaming orange dress anyway?
This girl is on fire

Black Widow

(top, The Tinsel Rack / skirt, Dressabelle / bag, Sandy Trove / shoes, Nakedglory / boots, Topshop / necklace, Lovisa)
(photos by MK)

Back to basic blacks (what a tongue-twister), and then again, I don't suppose there could ever be anything wrong with wearing black. When things get a little monotonous it's nice to throw in some detail, like a lace-overlay skirt and leather booties, to skirt the boundary of boring. I had to include a photo of my new Casio watch from Nakedglory (it's technically not so new anymore, seeing as I took these photos months ago); I've been in the throes of watch-lust for quite some time yet, though really I can't quite keep up with expenditure on both clothes and watches, so I think that lust will have to burn for a little while longer. And a crystal quartz necklace, I know, again, because I just can't stop buying quartz necklaces. I think I've mentioned before that they've become my basic go-to necklaces, and now I have just about the best excuse to buy as many as I want, because basic

Anyway, I just ended my finals exams for my second semester in school, which means I'm no longer a freshman, and am now moving onto my summer holidays! It feels a little startling to think that the first year in university is over already, but at least it's back to ootds for me now! I'm starting an internship somewhere soon, and it's really exciting for me, so hopefully I'll be able to take more ootds during the summer break even with work! How are y'all spending your summer holidays?
