Superhero Wannabe

Oh nothing, just fighting crime and trying to save the world. With Batman across my chest and a sneaky Catwoman on my fingers, I'm pretty much ready to take on the world. Or at least I can, in my wannabe fantasies. We all have them, I'm sure.

I do not normally wear pants, or even consider the notion of wearing pants, but that aversion is fast fading, because I am somehow madly in love with my striped pair. And yes, they do make me feel all superhero-y, because superheroes are allowed to prance around town in nothing short of latex bodysuits and wrongly worn undergarments, and wearing stripes on my bottom is just about as outrageous as it gets for me. Sorry, I'm a bit of a wimp here.

Dressed in my superhero look, I went gallivanting around the Orchard area, having Omakase Burgers with the parents-- Applewood Smoked Bacon Cheeseburger, Truffle Fries, and some kind of Chicken Burger. Hey, even superheroes need their food, and I am a great meat lover.

Thrown Together

Isn't my new clutch the sweetest? I was so excited to receive it in the mail. Yes, I love my name enough to have it stamped on a clutch, such that the whole world can know it and revel in it. I'm kidding. As per the title, this outfit was quite literally thrown together in a rush. I know I haven't been wearing too many colours recently due to my recent obsession with the blacks and whites, so hopefully this red skirt makes up for the absence of colour on my blog. I think I'm just stuck in a rut where colours just don't look good to or on me, so everything I have been buying has been either black or white.

Life has been... neutrally lukewarm recently-- maybe that's another way to phrase the adjective 'stable'. Nothing exciting has happened, and nothing out of the ordinary either, which I suppose should be good news, given my fear of the unexpected. I'm still planning loads more outfits, but my beloved photographer will be leaving her internship soon and I will have no one to help me with my photos soon. I'll try to figure something out, maybe play a little with my new tripod (thanks to a cousin). My vacation trip has also been finalized, and I'm really psyched for that, but more on that later.

Happy mid-week! Only two more days to Friday, thank goodness. This weekend is my junior's fashion show RProject 2014, and I'm really excited-- it will be the first time I get to sit down and enjoy the show instead of running around making sure guests find their seats, or doing other various errands. I'm looking forward to it with bated breath.

In The Nude...Pink

{top, The OOTD / shorts, BKK / bag, BKK / necklace, New Look / cat ring, Colette Hayman / beaded bracelets, Forever 21 / shoes, Foggiare}
(Photos by Vivian)

Last night, I had a dream in which someone gifted me with a pair of stiletto pumps-- minimalist, black, and sleek. In my dream, I was naturally hesitant to put them on (I seemed to be in a rush to get to somewhere) but I put my feet in them anyway. Lo and behold, the shoes felt like cushions on my feet, and I could magically balance and strut around in them as though I had been walking in heels since I could actually walk. I was speed walking, even, and it felt like heaven. Figures though, that such shoes have yet to be invented. I was telling a friend about this particular dream, and her reaction went something along the lines of "yeah, but they don't exist." It brings new meaning to the phrase, 'a girl can dream', doesn't it? Well, I'm waiting for that day when women can enjoy the magic of heels without having to suffer the pain. Hey, you never know.

It's funny how I've noticed that Singapore can be really beautiful too. I lucked out on finding this place to take my outfit photos at, against a backdrop of trees that looks pretty amazing. An outfit with pink? Pretty rare for me, but I find that I like the pairing of stark black against innocent pink. Plus, black is supposed to be slimming, and I need all the slimming I can get after my meal of a Bacon Sandwich at Kith Cafe, consisting of bacon, avocado, and poached eggs atop a bed of foccacia. Throw on some gold-toned accessories and you're good to go-- I must admit I am a little obsessed with my cat-ear ring. Recent obsessions include a hunt for a pair of boyfriend jeans (ripped subtly) to sate my thirst for new pairs of pants, a pair that will somehow squeeze itself into my minimal spending budget and magically fit on me. Yup, a girl can dream.

Have a very happy week ahead, and thank goodness for four-day-long weeks!

The Wrong Season

{top, Mango / shorts, BKK / necklace, Diva / belt, Bugis Street / bag, London / shoes, Doctor Martens / cat ear ring, Colette Hayman / rose ring, Stroberi}

It's not anywhere near the festive period (far from it, in fact) but I find myself in clashing colours meant only for Christmas Trees. It just happened to turn out that way. I've always wanted to try out bold colours, and do something different from my usual shades of blue, and it has manifested itself into this. It may come across as surprising, but my favourite non-blue shade to wear is red. It's just such a pity that I have almost nothing in red (something that must be remedied by more shopping!). It is also completely the wrong season in Singapore for me to wearing long sleeves. Not that that actually says very much, since we don't really have seasons here in Singapore. But the weather has been sweltering recently, and I predict a rise in my electricity bills.

April was busy, but a good month for me, and hopefully May will be just as good. I spent a good part of my April weekends catching up with classmates and friends, and much of May will be spent that very same way. I look forward to more good food with my friends, and many more outfit shots. I'm making the best out of my last few remaining months before university starts and I'm thrown into the whirlwind that is studying yet again, this time for four long years.

APRIL in pictures

Behold, the April edition of my Instagram photos.
1. White Chocolate Mocha treat from my cousin, which tastes nothing like coffee-- perfect (albeit a tad too sweet) for me, since I cannot understand why people like the bitter taste of coffee.
2. A really gorgeous tree in front of one of my neighbour's house-- it has the prettiest flowers but I have no idea what tree it is.
3. Matchy-matchy shoes with the fallen flower petals on the floor-- I love the time of the year when the trees bloom, because it seems so rare in Singapore.
4. Spontaneous lunch with Leen at Cedele, in our sloppiest clothes and spectacles, with way too much bread because we were too excited about the bread bar.
5. Smiley face butterless chocolate chip cookies that ended up looking a bit like Domo Kun because I did not space them out properly on the tray.
6. A close up of the flowers on the tree (in picture 2)-- one word: Beautiful.
7. Mystery muffin that was on my table when I arrived at work one morning (it turns out a colleague baked it).
8. Butterless White Chocolate Raisin Muffins from a basic plain muffin base recipe I found. Mmm raisins.
9. The Singapore version of Sakura-- I took this photo at a garden near my house when the trees were in full bloom. The feeling of watching the pink velvety petals float gently to a floor already covered in a tapestry of flowers is beyond divine.
10. My first ever company dinner at an Indonesian restaurant-- a fun and new experience.
11. The staff canteen actually had an Easter feast day, with aglio olio, chicken kebab, garlic bread, and even an Easter Egg jelly. How cute is that!
12. Macdonald's has totally levelled up their ice cream cones. Enough said.
13. Japanese Spaghetti with Shimeiji mushrooms, bacon, and salmon-- had dinner with my brotherhood, and I have missed them so very much.
14. My shopping hauls from H&M, and I love them so much that I have already worn all of them and fallen more deeply in love with them.
15. Butterless Mudcake (recipe from averlynn's) that was gobbled up really quickly by the family.
16. My new buy from The Vintage Stash, along with a gifted notebook from them. Everything is customized and pretty amazing, so they're worth checking out on Facebook.
17. Easter nails, which are quite possibly the most complicated nails I've ever done. I don't celebrate Easter, but hey, at least I can have the commercialized versions of Easter in the form of bunnies and chicks and Easter eggs on my fingers.
18. A chocolate cupcake with minty butter frosting from a colleague, the moment I stepped into the office. It was delicious. I am getting fat.
19. I made the long, hot walk to Amoy Street for lunch, and a colleague treated me to Fish Dumpling Horfun (on the second floor), which is quite possibly the best dumplings I have ever eaten in my life. Even right now, I am craving for them.
20. Close ups of electric blue laser cut-outs and jersey pinstripes. Just because I can.
21. The search for the perfect and elusive Butterless Double Chocolate Chip Cookie continues, though these did turn out much better than my previous attempt.
22. A colleague had free coupons for Starbuck's new drinks, so I managed to snag a Banana & Mango Frappucino, which basically reminds me of a smoothie.

Outfit posts up soon, I promise! I'm just dead on my feet today.

Denim Shift Dress

{dress, Dressabelle / shoes, Doctor Martens / ring, Sasa / necklace, Talisman's / bag, London}
(Photos by Siu Farn)

I had a lovely lunch with Siu a couple of weeks ago, seated under a canopy of leafy trees at a place overlooking the Singapore River, talking about random things and screeching whenever a pigeon or crow came within one metre of us, and discovering that pigeons can actually widen their eyes. (It actually makes for a rather comical expression.) The weather was blazing hot, as it is now everyday, but it was a brilliant time for a chat.

It must be rather ironic that just when I discovered a new love for all things shift-like, the strong winds buffeting my flared skirts around died down, leaving behind only the sweltering heat. Thanks so much, weather. But then again, I wish I had discovered how flattering shift dresses were long ago. A straight cut that seems to hide the stomach and skims the hips, giving the illusion of a more streamlined figure? What's not to love? The funny thing about wearing this dress was that everyone in the office thought that I had a 'hot date' on that night, but I think that may have been due to the fact that I do not usually keep my hair up in the office. Practically every single colleague mentioned my 'new look' to me, or asked if I had plans for the night. And while I am rather flattered that my outfits actually do get noticed, it all came across as rather amusing. No, I did not have plans on that night (forever alone), and a girl should also be allowed to bun up her hair and dress up whenever she feels like it.

And you know how everyone says that a little black dress is essential in a wardrobe? I don't have a single one, and I say, forget the LBD-- everyone needs a DSD. (Denim Shift Dress, in case you didn't catch that)
Happy Labour Day!
